Semiotic Standard For All Commercial Trans-Stellar Utility Lifter And Heavy Element Transport Spacecraft
I got bored one night, and was trying to spend some time getting used to using Affinity Designer so that I could rid myself of all things Adobe, once and for all…. needing a project, I decided to vectorize Ron Cobb‘s Weylan-Yutani iconography, found throughout the world of Alien.
I’d come across the excellent article Alien’s ‘Standard Semiotic’, Pictograms and Icons downloaded the graphic, and went to work. And then they just sat on my desktop for a year or so, until mentioned in a random conversation, when I remembered them and figured I’d stick em here.
Of course, while looking for the article again, I came across an older article about the same thing on Behance, Semiotic Standard, by Boris (Baris) Tovmasyan, which of course does a much better job, AND, provides downloadable PSD, AI and other files…
sigh…
oh well, here are mine in all their SVG glory.

Addendum:
Did some more poking about and found Ron Cobb’s website (RIP) and went through his film credits… I’ve always loved his work, but didn’t quite realise how much. Besides the films I’d already known he had worked on, I just found out he worked on the original Hitchickers Guide BBC series, Firefly and a ZZ Top cover. Damn…
